Monday, June 16 and our destination is Lamar Valley. This is probably our favorite area of Yellowstone because we know we will see animals here. It was soooooo cold last night, but no snow. We couldn't turn on the generator while in the campground, but we remembered a little pull-out spot just off the main road right outside the camp. As soon as we work up, we just pulled out of
Norris campground and parked along the main road. This turned out to be the perfect
place to enjoy our breakfast. We were
able to run the generator to make coffee and enjoy the beautiful scenery
as well as an elk, a stream, and several bison grazing in the adjoining field.
These Bison were right next to the MH
(about 10 ft. away). I woke Kyler up as
soon as we saw the bison. We loved watching the bison eat his breakfast
while we enjoyed ours.
After breakfast we headed to Mammoth.
As we continued down the road to Lamar Valley (from Mammoth), we spotted a bear along the road. Notice how close the people are in this first picture!
Our drive through Lamar Valley was beautiful as usual.
We saw a huge bald eagle nest.
We also saw a group of people looking at a wolf, but there was no place to park the Motorhome. This is the disadvantage to traveling through Yellowstone in a huge MH towing a car behind.
We drove to tower falls, hoping to get a camp spot, but it was full.
We also tried the hotel there, but it was booked.
However, we were able to get a spot at Fishing Village.
On the way over there we stopped at Mud Volcano and the upper and lower falls.
You never know when you are getting to get a little snow driving over the higher elevations - regardless of the time of year!
The campground at Fishing Village is one of the few places with hookups, but we were disappointed…. no fires, no picnic table, and a very small spot (barely room to park).
However, it has been very cold and windy all day so we were happy to have power (heat) and a nice, warm shower!
