First night of camping.

We are covering new territory for me and Phillip today - we've never gone into the Tetons via Hwy 26, and it is a beautiful drive!  Jayden has my little Sony camera and he is ready to be a professional photographer!

We went through a very "western-looking"  town and just had to stop and look around.  There is an old gold mine which was not open to the public, but we walked up some very shake-y stairs to look at the entrance....you never know...there could be some gold nuggets around!

We traveled  Hwy 26 and entered the park through the south entrance.  Destination - Moose, Wyoming.  We stopped for the evening before getting to Moose at the Brooks Lake Falls campsite, which is in the Teton National Forest.  The site only had vaulted toilets, but it was a pretty campsite. The falls were just a short hike away.

As soon as we got to the campsite, Jayden started looking for tracks and found the tracks of an elk and an elk calf.

Since this is bear area, we had to put our food in the bear box.  Although Phillip and I have done this before, it was new to Jayden.  I am so enjoying seeing this area for the "first time" again through Jayden's eyes!

We cooked out on our single burner propane cooker.  It is amazing how good a simple meal can be when cooked outside(chicken alfredo).

This was our first night to camp and try out the truck bed for Jayden.  We watched Ghost Busters on the computer before going to sleep.  We did not see a bear, but Jayden screamed out in the night “help me” and scared us to death.  He must have been having a dream.

Wyoming's wildlife

Day 2....we are getting closer....

Rocky Mountains

We have been driving through plains, which are beautiful in their own way, but we have been looking for the mountains!

Our first glimpse!

On the road again....

Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway.....We had breakfast at a little cafe between Ogallala and Oshkosh Nebraska...it is on the Oregon Trail and is therefore called the Oregon Trail Trading Post. Phillip and I have eaten here several times over the years.  We are on the lookout for wildlife. Jayden is going to take a little nap and told me to wake him for anything except cows, horses and deer. Notice in this picture that we got out the jackets this morning...a little chilly.

Ogallala, Nebraska

It has been a long day of traveling, and Jayden has done great! He has not complained...but he has asked "how much further?" several times :) Tomorrow should be more exciting as we get into the mountains. The weather has been great today...

Jayden's first car picnic...

I can't believe that he's not had a car picnic.  We are packed for camping, so we have all of the needed supplies.  A turkey sandwich and carrot sticks with ranch dip....yummm.

Yellowstone or bust!

Yes, we are headed west...looking for adventure....me, Phillip and Jayden!
