The Grand Tetons

Monday, May 23.  We woke around 7 this morning and decided to have a leisurely breakfast before heading out.  I cooked turkey bacon and scrambled eggs with cheese.  Evan finished his movie this morning while enjoying his breakfast and hot chocolate.

We then drove over to Moose Wyoming to check out the Snake River floats.  They are not running until May 27 because the highway department has the road closed.  We drove over to the visitor's center at Moose to look around.  We made reservations at Flagg Ranch which is just two miles south of YNP.

On the way over to our next camping spot, we drove around Jenny Lake and stopped and hiked for a bit.

We decided to check out this old homestead we saw along our way. It was a short hike from the road and we were ready for some exploring.  It was interesting to imagine how those early settlers lived.

We arrived at our campsite around 3:30 and after some exploring, we started dinner.  Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy - per Evan's request.  After dinner we showered and then watched Open Season 2.

Dubois, WY and snow!

I think Evan is getting a little tired of all the driving...he took about 20 similar pictures, but I'll just share a couple.

We arrived in Dubois, Wyoming around 2:30, and stopped for a little exploring. Below is the entrance to an old mine that is right on Main Street.  It was boarded to prevent entry.

We are camping just down the highway from Dubois. This is a National Forest Service campground which is next to a beautiful waterfall.  We have stopped here with each of the Pitts boys, but this is the first time for snow! It is about 60 degrees so it will be melting, but it is exciting 😄☃

We enjoyed our dinner and snuggled up for a movie before bed.

Sunday morning

We all had a great night. Up this morning and Evan reminded me I promised him sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast. After breakfast Evan went out to look for rabbits. They are all over the place here. But Evan saw a very small BABY rabbit this morning - it was smaller than his hedgehog! After Evan and Pop unhooked everything (Evan is now trained on how to get the poop out of the motor home), he took me to see where the baby rabbit had gone under the concrete pad around the pool. We stood there quietly for a few minutes and it came back out! Sadly, I didn't have a camera with me.

Time to hit the road again. We should start seeing a lot of wildlife on this section of the trip. We started out seeing a herd of antelope.

Funny Story

We arrived in Douglas, WY around 5:30 pm on Saturday, May 21. It has been a pretty long travel day for Evan and he was ready to run around a little. We stayed in this same KOA when we came through with Kyler two years ago. We were checking in and she had Pop's name in the computer and said "Oh, you stayed here two years ago." And I said "But that time we had grandson number 2 and this is grandson number 3." She then said "I remember you and your grandson! You played miniature golf and you told us about taking each of your grandsons to Yellowstone." I think that is so funny...I mean think about how many people have checked in and out of this KOA in the last two years.

Evan and I went out exploring and saw 10 rabbits! Two were adults and the others were young rabbits. They were so cute!

It is really, really windy here - there is a storm coming through. We have played, eaten and showered. Time for movie and bed.

Still traveling.

Evan is getting a little feisty after just one day as King. He already delegated part of his co-pilot duties to me 🙄

We may need to call Melissa, we think this kid might have a tape worm!  We stopped at a little cafe in Nebraska because we have stopped here several times before.  It wasn't meal time, but Evan said he wanted a snack.  See his idea of a "snack" below (and he ate every bit of this).

And the sun sets over day 2....

Day One

We headed out from Farmington about 9:am on Friday morning. It was a fairly uneventful day - thank goodness! No major leaks, no hail, rain or tornadoes....

Evan said that time passes pretty fast in the motor home. He spent the entire day in the co-pilot's seat...playing with my iPad, watching movies, etc. In fact, he streamed 1/3 of our available data plan in ONE day!

We stopped for the night in Hays, Kansas. We ate dinner at the Applebee's which was pretty good. We then went to the local Wal Mart for the night. Evan and I went in and bought a bunch of groceries. It was pretty quiet at the WM until about 5 am...that's when all the campers and truckers start moving around. We drank coffee and had breakfast and didn't get on the road until 8:30....it was a little hard to get our pilot moving this morning...

Headed out at 9 am

We are headed out on a great adventure with Evan James Pitts! We are so excited to begin this journey.
